Painting Water drops by Manju Panchal

Creating waterdrops is a lot of fun. I do it all the time especially during the demo
sessions during my workshops. So just decided to put in two of them.

Landscape in soft pastels by Manju Panchal

This landscape painting is from my reference photograph from Madikeri, ie COORG, beautiful hill station about 5 hrs drive from Banglore city. The photograph was taken during one of our morning walks when we were trying to explore the area. The lush greenery and the beauty of the place is enchanting. I was fascinated by the light at the end of the pathway where it suddenly took a steep curve, and I remember taking the photograph then with the intention of making a painting out of it someday. Finally I have done it and I am so glad that this happened.

Thumbnail sketches at tea time by Manju Panchal

Thumbnail sketches

Normally during my evening tea time, I get the strong evening sunrays which fall on objects lying around in the kitchen. I make use of this oppourtunity to do a few thumbnail sketches. I have done one in water colour too. I believe that drawing and sketching is the most important exercise in art. the more we draw and sketch the more we understand the forms and shapes of objects around us.

When I am doing these rough sketches I am not looking for too many details. I just kind of do the basic shapes and observe the values and tones. It is a fun filled experience which of course adds to my knowledge
a big way.
