Lord Ganesha - Acrylic Paintings

Lord Ganesha , the Hindu God is worshipped on many religious and secular occasions; especially at the beginning of ventures such as buying a vehicle or starting a business.K.N. Somayaji says, "there can hardly be a [Hindu] home [in India] which does not house an idol of Ganapati. [..] Ganapati, being the most popular deity in India, is worshipped by almost all castes and in all parts of the country". Devotees believe that if Ganesha is propitiated, he grants success, prosperity and protection against adversity.

Pomengranate - still life

Single pomengranate done in soft pastels. I had placed the pomengranate on a table, the sunlight from the window fell on the right of the fruit and created a beautiful shadow on the left.  I changed the background colour to create the colour harmony.( originally the table was brown and the wall behind was offwhite ).
After the painting had completed I added the water drops in the front.

The White on black

This is another painting of mine where I used white pastel pencil and white soft pastel chalk to get the different values of the objects in still life work. The darkest value ie black was the paper itself , so I avoided using any whites there.

Soft Pastel work on black fabriano paper
Size 12" X 14" ( Without frame )

This painting is unframed. I have used the Aviary Photo Editor to add the frame to enhance the looks.

Mini charcoal sketches ( still life )

The sketches done below are on ordinary grey chart paper which is slightly textured. Hence
I decided  to do quick small sketches on it to study light and shadow  effect. I did
not spend too  much time adding details. Twenty minutes on each of them. I have
used white pastel pencil, black camel charcoal pencil, white pastel chalk
to do them. When I do  not have enough time to do a big piece of work
and yet want to do some art work in the day then I do these mini sketches.

Both of them are about 4" X 5" in size.
I love doing the mini sketches as it completes fast and gives me a
great deal of satisfaction.

Mungyo Pastels

This is one of my initial works in pastels.( around four years back ) It is framed in glass  so I have tilted my paiinting to take the image in order to avoid any reflections.

size 6" X 6"
Soft pastels

I had this set of square MUNGYO pastels with me and I tried out works on plain grey
chart paper. Found them good. Medium soft and reasonable to start with. Easily
available in art shops in INDIA.

Acrylic painting of a Beach scene by Manju Panchal

Acrylic Paintings are good to work with and the biggest advantage is that it dries up quickly and
one can see the end result immediately. Also from my experience I know that none of my acrylic
paintings , some of which are as old as twenty odd years, have ever caught fungus. They are
still as bright and good as ever.

BUT the biggest disadvantage is that because it dries quickly blending becomes extremely tricky
and difficult especially if the subject is PORTRAITS or REALISTIC Still life works.

Pastel painting of two apples by Manju Panchal

Another Soft Pastel work

These two apples were lying on the table and the composition looked too good. So I remember having
done this on Fabrano white paper ( Normally I always use a coloured paper for all my pastel works )
The apples had a dark brown background of the table on which they were placed but i decided
to change the background to suit the apples.

Pomengranate - soft pastel painting by Manju Panchal

I ventured into soft pastels about four years back. I fell in love with this medium. The pure pigments in the colour with very less binder make the painting very bright and colourful. I have used KOH -I - NOOR
soft pastels to create this pastel work on Canson Mi Tentes paper.

Mini Kitchen paintings ( still life )

A collection of 6" X 6" canvas paintings of fruits and vegetables .
I enjoy painting the size 6" X 6" canvas. It finishes fast and is a great experience in handling
composition, colours, values, perspective etc.

6" X 6" canvas still life paintings by manju Panchal

I decided to use this arrangement of display on my kitchen wall where it is put up even now. It adds
so much of colour to the atmosphere. ( some are done in acrylic, others are in oils ). Most of these
paintings have been done over a period of last fifteen years.

Water colour painting of 3 horses

Water colour painting by Manju Panchal

I have been dabbling in paints since childhood. It has been fun to be involved with colours. I am posting some of my old works to begin with. The painting of 3 horses below is done in Camel artists watercolours. I did it may be somewhere is 1991. It still decorates one of the walls of my house. I referred to a chinese painting to do this one.
